Day 12 – Sunday 20th June [The Big Sleep]

In Cricket parlance today could be considered a rest day. After a big night at Claphem Grande [local night club] Sash has chosen to have a sleep in – more on that in a moment.
I took the opportunity for some me time [remember we spoke about that previously]. Not interested in long & complex journeys so I have chosen to head to the beach to Joe Cools – local bar/pub/club/restaurant – you name it it’s it. The Slovakia v Paraguay game is shit but the beers are ok so it’s a pass. Fair dinkum there should be an investigation into how some of these teams qualified for the World Cup – me, Sash & the Toyota Superstars could give them a serious touch up.
Anyway the Italy v New Zealand game is a little more entertaining – especially with the bar full of Aussies booing the shit out of every Italian touch of the ball – the scars from 2006 clearly run deep. The 1-1 result is met with thunderous applause from the Aussies in the room. Enjoy it Kiwis because under any other circumstances those same red-neck Aussies would gladly break a bottle of VB over your head – empty of course – not wasting good piss.
At 4pm – GOT THAT – 4pm I get a text from Sash “the giant has awoken”. The bloke has slept for the better part of 14 hours – SHIT, how does one sleep for so long – the guy is clearly part grizzly bear. We went to the Casino tonight – something a little different. Went to a place called Mimos & had pizza – it was terrible – Sash nearly threw up – should have known better, an Italian restaurant in South Africa run by Indians – too much diversity for unstable stomachs. By the way we have indulged in a bit of Pizza while we have been here & have been amazed at the selection. Every place has a menu with at least 50 choices of pizza – how can they be that creative. We also had a bit of a nostalgic trip with the selection of beer – have not had a Grolsch in years although I remember the bottles being bigger. We then went into the sport-bar to watch the game [Brazil v Ivory Coast – great game & Brazil can play – let me say that again – Brazil can play – they won 3-1 & Drogba scored for the Ivorians]. I bumped into another Aussie I know, Darren my nephew’s good mate that I used to play indoor soccer with – Aussies everywhere.
No partying tonite although we do stop in at the roulette table & pick up some spending money. Sash developed a system & we won – who knew he was a high roller [free beer for a few nights]. Off to bed early for more sleep [well overdue].
Seeya.
